Jay DEE-WELCOME TO DETROIT Beat Generation Vol. 1 By: Dj Ice Having already given you a review Que D earlier in the year with Jay-Dee at the helm, I'm back to let you know the masta of hand-clap would like to WELCOME you To DETROIT. Don't expect some Eminem D12 crap! This is an album of brand new material by JAY DEE aka J Dilla Featuring Detroitís homegrown MC's Frank & Dank, Phat Katt, Kareem and others. Jay Dee confesses in the liner notes. "I started off making a break beat record"; What we have here is a CD for the purist of the beat side of things. I was nodding from the opening track "Welcome to DETROIT." "COME GET IT", "SHAKE IT DOWN", & "Brazilian Groove" are definitely for the blunted inclined. He seems to take you in his jazzy hypnotic style with J DILLA never missiní a beat. I personally am feeliní this project. It's too RAW! He leaves a raw basement edge to his beats. Not sloppy just dusty nekbreakiní. That's how I feel about most stuff JAY DEE touches. He seems to continue to make timeless material. Kicks are pounding snares are crisp, on this 17 track CD. have the Vinyl though. You know how we do. |

The NextMen
75 Ark Entertainment- Scenario Records By:
Wylie
The world is getting smaller. Rap acts have been on the road for years. Rocking shows proving
and showing what is Hip Hop culture. These dedicated entertainers we can thank for having created
a universal language. Hip Hop is spoken fluently in the U.K. and currently the Nextmen with their
debut LP Amongst the Madness are talking classic for any ears listening. The Nextmen feature
live rhyme slayers, Soulson and Ken Boogaloo and are anchored by dj's Mr. Thing and Harry Love.
This savvy group tapped legend in the making Grap Luva from INI fame bringing authority to
this release. Grap's two guest tracks "Thinking Man's Session" & "Break the Mould" clearly
raise the bar and Nextmen respond impressively. Soulson gets his "Shine On" lacing the title
track, delivering the relentlessly presice "Step Below the Surface" and two true bangers
"clarity" & "Revitalise."Not to be out done Ken Boogaloo drops a pair of gems, "Buck Foolish"
and a song that makes me proud to be a b-boy "My Way." |

WALDECk "The Night Garden" Emagine Music
By: Ed Fields
Waldeck is a very tight artist. The first CD was good and we were looking
forward to the LA tour date when he cancelled for medical reasons. Now he's alive and well- "The Night Garden"
is smooth. This album features a special Deep Club Mix by veteran house producer/remixer
Eric Kupper.
There is tons of creavtive and ground breaking sounds as well. And whoever the girl is singing
on "Tears Running Dry" makes you feel it. As some would say Waldecks sound is very sophisticated
and smart I definitely suggest pickin this one up. It is most likely available online
at www.emaginemusic.com.

LINKIN PARK "Hybrid Theory" Warner Bros. By: Ed Fields Cuttin' and a scrathin' and it sounds so fresh. This group is young and full of energy. They are paranoid, one step closer to the edge and the have all ready broke. One minute they are bringing the melody style vocals and the next its some deep loud Metallica style. "I'll never take the blame again for the sake of being with you." I only wish that was true, for me that is. Crawling is the shit I just cant figure out if it makes me mad or sad. "In The End" it doesn't even matter. Which ever- it strikes an emotional reaction that I can only imagine from the mind of a 13 year old. My nephew loves the shit so much I think he stole the disc for good this time. Can't wait to see these guys live, I hope its not a disappointment. These guys are definitely on the way up. Wish we could get an interview.
