Q- What do you write?
IdiotOne
Q- What crew(s) do you represent?
Many, which I dont care to mention.
Q- When did you start painting? Do you still paint?
I have been writing since late 86', but "Idiot" is an identity that came about in 1993. "Idiot" is the name I push now.
Q- Why did you start?
I started writing Idiot because I wanted a name that was the opposite of what you would expect. Not many writers would write a name that was insulting towards themselves. But at the same time, I'm not necessarily the idiot. Also I just wanted to have multiple names going on the freight system.
More recently (1999-2000) I have been tagging in LA on peoples posters/bills. It seemed like the posters stay up for a good amount of time and are highly visible. So I thought to myself, "thats where I need to be". Plus I am writing on something that is already posted, so I feel I am not breaking the law. Getting close to 30 years old, I don't need to catch a case for writing..
Q- What was you favorite writing experience?
Attacking the "Andy Lives" campaign. Those posters were the perfect outlet to push the "Idiot" identity. Two different faces posted all over the city...and me adding a descriptive word (Idiot) to their foreheads. Plus I could do it in the broad daylight with lots of on lookers in their cars wondering who the idiot really is? Is it them (the masses), is it me for writing, or is it the guy who carried out the "Andy Lives" campaign.
Q-What was your craziest/worse experience?
Under this name, none. Back in the day, getting arrested.
Q- Has graff changed in your eyes?
Sure. Its becoming more and more advanced with respect to styles and the process. I wonder where its gonna be in 10 yrs.?
Q- How do you compare the old school era of LA to the new generation of LA writers?
I don't. Two totally different ball games.
Q-Do you like the new styles out there?
Yeah, they're out of hand. I wish I could do that shit. Much respect to writers such as "Ayer" (rip), Zes, Gkae, Saber, Revok and Retna.
Q- I know this question gets debated a lot (at least with old schoolers) but who(m) do you think had the most impact in the LA scene?
I don't think any one person had the most impact. I think certain time periods/events in LA graff brought the most impact. The Radio Tron days, the Bus period from (85-89) which still continues, the battles from (88-89), BC vs MAK, Hex vs. Slick Part 1 and 2, the Heavens, Saber ...LA river...Gkae's prime...the list goes on...
Q-What writer/crew deserves more credit in your eyes for developing the graff scene in LA?
I really can't give it to one writer or crew. But I think the combination of everyones efforts contributed to the development of this scene.
Some crews that stick out are K2S, STN, WCA, BC, KSN, UTI, AWR, MSK, LTS, DTK, IFK. Writers that stick out are Risky, Rize, Rev, Prime, Skept, Rick, Duke, Tempt, Relic, Baba, Charlie, Genius, Gkae, Saber, Zes, Ayer (rip), Oiler, Miner, Wisk, Chaka, Sleez, Gin, Price, Skill, Snap, Rage and a whole bunch more.
Q- The Internet is becoming a new medium for graff artists to expose their work. How do feel about this whole web thing and is it really part of getting up?
Definitley not part of getting up, but a medium to show your work to a global audience and of course the cops.
Q-
What do you think about the graff overseas, such as in Germany, Holland etc?
Excuse my French, but I think they're some lucky mother fuckers. There train system is off the hook.
Q-- What does the future have in store for graffiti?
Or what does graffiti have in store for the future?....shit that we never imagined would happen.
Q- Will you be a supporter? or a hater?
Supporter of graff....hater of gov.
Q- Anything else to add?
Be safe out there.
